Kapoor House

London, 2008 - for Tony Fretton Architects

1/5

A new house for Anish Kapoor and family built on the 50m long site of two former light industrial buildings hidden in the heart of Chelsea. Entered beneath an apartment building on the street, the house stretches out around a series of courtyards that fill the interior with light and create gardens of different characters. The simple palette of polished and brushed stainless steel and beautifully figured stone provide a calm backdrop to the life and art that will inhabit the space.

The building was longlisted for the Mies Van de Rohe European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture.

Sandy Rendel was Project Architect for the building.
